Akrasi formed in late 90s Manchester clubland. Founded by Brixton singer Joyce Akrasi (who was studying at MMU) and musician Patrick Luke (who was venturing into music production having previously been frontman of Manchester band Sandmen). Akrasi began by organising and performing at their own jungle nights called Transmission with friends from Manchesters Drum & Bass scene. After moving to London and signing to German electronica label Sellwell.de. The duo released their own brand of down tempo breakbeat, namely the Zero-1 EP (2001) and album We Are In The Future (2005) whilst playing gigs across the UK and Europe. Some high lights of which were supporting LTJ Bukem & Conrad in Munich, appearing at Paris Fashion Week, headlining Covent Garden's Africa Centre alongside special guests Jerry Dammers, Smith & Mighty, Kevin Davy and MC Buzz B. Joyce also featured as guest vocalist on Rob Smith's 2006 album In One Way Or Another (Rush! Productions)
